Avitourism Strategy

Ecuador’s national avitourism strategy was published in 2006 by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Tourism, copyright MCF and CORPEI.

This first-and-only of a kind document for Latin America outlines eco-scenic birding trails in different habitats around the country, and we all look forward to their continuing implementation with local partner organizations, local governments and the Ecuadorian Ministries of Tourism and Environment. This strategy shows how rural communities can become active habitat defenders while tangibly benefiting from biodiversity, a true challenge for many birdy areas around the world!

MCF and all of the various actors involved need support from other NGOs, individuals and tour companies to see that this strategy is carried out to its true potential. Bird clubs, Audubon chapters, willing donors and concerned citizens can all be a part of something new, something big!

It’s simple really, Ecuador can and should become ‘The Epicenter of World Birding’!

Some time has gone by since then, and in 2010 we were hired again by the Ministry of Tourism to update the strategy with a series of definitive actions to improve the birding experience for foreign visitors, make it more accessible for national enthusiasts and also to continue to promote and position Ecuador as the ‘Center of World Birding’. More news surely to come from MINTUR and others to keep the Ecuadorian Birding Industry on top!

Estrategia Nacional

La Estrategia Nacional para el Manejo y el Desarrollo Sostenible del Aviturismo en el Ecuador fue publicada en el 2006 por el Ministerio de Turismo, derechos de autor MCF y CORPEI.

Este documento único en Latinamérica describe rutas eco-escénicas en diferentes hábitats alrededor del país, y todos anhelamos su implementación por parte de organizaciones locales, gobiernos locales y los Ministerios de Turismo y del Ambiente. Esta estrategia demuestra como comunidades rurales pueden convertirse en defensores activos de hábitat mientras obtienen beneficios tangibles de la biodiversidad, un desafío en muchos destinos en todo el mundo!

MCF y todos los actores involucrados necesitan el apoyo de otras ONGs, individuos y operadores turísticos para desarrollar el potencial de esta estrategia y del país. En esta actividad el Ecuador puede competir con cualquiera. Clubes de aves, capítulos del Audubon, donantes privados y ciudadanos comunes pueden ser parte de algo nuevo, algo grande!

Es sencillo al final: Ecuador puede y debería volverse “El epicentro de aviturismo mundial”!

Algún tiempo ha pasado desde entonces, y en el año 2010 fuimos contratados de nuevo por el Ministerio de Turismo del Ecuador para actualizar las propuestas hechas, incluyendo una serie de actividades concretas sobre un periodo de 3 años para: mejorar la experiencia aviturística para los visitantes extranjeros y volver la actividad más accesible para los entusiastas nacionales, y para seguir promocionando y posicionando el Ecuador como el ‘Centro Mundial de Aviturismo’. Seguramente más noticias vendrán desde MINTUR y demás actores gubernamentales.
