Oreothraupis Reserve

 

This 375 acre reserve of pristine cloudforest runs between the ‘Paseo del Quinde’ and the banks of the Mindo River. While the property is named for the odd Tanager Finch, it is also home to Spectacled Bear, Ocellated Tapaculo and much much more. Come bird the well-maintained trail that will take you from 2,300 to 2,450 meters elevation with the best possible views over the Mindo Nambillo Protected Forest. You can enjoy perhaps the world’s highest concentration of Plate-billed Mountain-Toucan and Toucan Barbets too, plus an entire suite of montane cloud forest species from Kinkajous to the occasional Three-toed Sloth!

This property is part of the Mindo-Nambillo Protected Forest and aside from the one access trail, we prefer to keep it untouched, low-impact and good fun! MCF now has birdy properties at three altitudes, Río Silanche around 350 meters (1150 feet); Milpe at 1100 meters (3650 feet) and the Oreothraupis Reserve. With a ‘combo’ ticket bought at Milpe, you can bird all three.

Reserva Oreothraupis

Estas 150 hectáreas de Bosque Nublado son parte del Bosque Protector Mindo-Nambillo y corren entre ‘El Paseo del Quinde y la orilla del río Mindo. Esta propiedad alberga un grupo diferente de aves, incluyendo el famoso y raro Pinzón Tangara, y también este bosque es hábitat del Oso de Anteojos, Ocellated Tapaculo y mucho mucho más. Suba por el sendero desde 2.300 a 2.450 m.s.n.m. y disfrute de las mejores vistas sobre el Bosque Protector Mindo-Nambillo y quizá la más alta concentración de Tucanes Andinos en el mundo, Yumbos también!

Como esta propiedad es parte del Bosque Protector, únicamente tenemos el un sendero de acceso, bajo impacto y mucha diversión! MCF ahora tiene tres propiedades para las aves en tres pisos altitudinales, Río Silanche ca. 350 m.s.n.m.; Milpe en 1100 m.s.n.m. y esta reserva. Con una entrada ‘combo’ que se compra en Milpe, se puede observar aves donde le guste.
